Can you relate?
Balancing motherhood & a career is hard. Like many moms, maybe you’ve felt:
Overwhelmed by daily tasks and responsibilities but struggle to ask for help.
Guilt for not meeting self-imposed or societal standards.
Anxiety about not being a good enough mother, partner, or professional.
Loneliness and isolation despite being surrounded by family and friends.
Frustration and resentment towards partners for not sharing the mental load.
Irritability, mood swings, sadness, or hopelessness.
Ashamed when you try to take time for yourself or set a boundary with family.
Swept away by symptoms of postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety.
You are not alone in this journey.
Many high-achieving moms like you struggle with the overwhelming demands of motherhood, balancing careers, and maintaining a sense of self. It’s natural to feel exhausted, frustrated, and even lost at times. But there is hope, and change is possible.
You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Support and transformation are just a conversation away. Let’s work together to help you thrive, both as a mother and as the incredible individual you are. Change is within reach, and you deserve to feel supported and understood every step of the way.
Meet Sanah Kotadia, LPC, NCC | Postpartum therapist in Houston
The postpartum period can cause mothers to feel lonely, isolated, and overworked, which can cause anxiety to spike. This tender time also puts a spotlight on any unresolved narratives and experiences (even if you thought you already worked through any challenges from your past).
Deeply ingrained patterns like perfectionism and people-pleasing can go into overdrive as you step into your new role and all of the expectations that come with it.
Thankfully, therapy can help. Together, we can process your emotions, learn skills to help you communicate and cope, and give you the space to explore your new identity.
Here's a bit more about my background.

How therapy for new moms can help.
Pinpoint what's not working
All of the difficult feelings that come with new motherhood can make it hard to figure out what's wrong, which makes it impossible to find solutions. In therapy, we can process your experiences together, giving you the time and space to discover specific challenges and find tangible, creative solutions.
Overcome people-pleasing and perfectionism
Motherhood can uncover and intensify deeply rooted patterns of perfectionism and people-pleasing in ways that weren't possible in your pre-baby life. Together, we can work through these narratives and help you find ways to embrace your authentic self and accept your human-ness.
Learn skills to communicate with your partner
If you feel overwhelmed with all of the aspects of new motherhood, you're not alone. At the same time, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to ask for help. The therapy methods I use can teach you communication skills so you can feel empowered to ask your partner (and others) for what you need.
Recognize the mental load of motherhood
There is so much invisible labor that goes into being a mom. The mental energy that you use to keep your baby on a schedule, make sure the household chores get done, and somehow try to prioritize your own well-being can take a toll. We'll acknowledge and address this mental load together.
Embrace your new identity
Motherhood shifts identity, and that can be tough to understand until you actually experience it firsthand. Together, we'll embrace your new role and make space to both grieve and reconnect with your pre-baby self.
Normalize difficult emotions
As you know, motherhood isn't all butterflies and rainbows. There are very real, intense, difficult emotions (not to mention mood swings) that come along with being a new mama. Therapy offers the opportunity to normalize and accept these emotions as an inevitable part of the journey.
Why choose Balanced Minds Therapy
Getting the right mental health support is key. Here are a few reasons to choose Balanced Minds Therapy for postpartum counseling in Houston & virtually all over Texas. For mamas, outside of Texas, we can also set up motherhood coaching sessions.
I'm a mom myself.
While your work in therapy isn't about me, I believe it's important for my clients to know that I'm a new mom myself. Though our experiences may differ, I deeply understand the challenges (and joys) that new moms face. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you don't have to explain yourself.
I combine evidence-based methods with a strong therapeutic relationship.
I view an authentic, trusting therapeutic relationship as the cornerstone of effective therapy. At the same time, I also prioritize using evidence-based techniques that have been proven to work. I believe that this combination helps my clients get the most out of therapy.
I offer convenient online sessions.
Juggling medical appointments, nap and feeding schedules, and the other elements of new motherhood can be overwhelming. I offer online therapy to give new moms a convenient, flexible way to prioritize their mental health.
FAQs about new mother counseling in Houston, TX
-
There is no set timeline for adjusting to parenthood. Each person's journey is unique, so it's important to give yourself grace and avoid comparing yourself to others. "Adjusting" may take more time if you struggle with perinatal mental health issues like postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety, or if you had a traumatic birth experience.
-
Again, there is no one-size-fits-all answer for making new motherhood easier, but I want to offer you so much compassion for asking this because I know how difficult it can be. Practicing self-compassion, asking for help from loved ones, and seeking individual therapy are a few of the steps I recommend.
-
Feeling overwhelmed, lonely, or exhausted is a normal part of new motherhood. As you navigate your new identity, you may grieve your pre-baby life or worry that you won't be a good mom. Again, these feelings can be normal and it's important to make space for them while also recognizing that feelings will pass. Getting professional support can help you process these emotions and embrace your new role.
